Bacterial
Vaginosis
Bacterial Vaginosis is one of the most
common forms of Vaginal Infection (or Vaginitis), along with
Vaginal Yeast
Infections and Trichomoniasis.
The vagina creates its own environmental
ecosystem and maintains a balance among normal bacteria.
Vaginal Infections can occur when this ecosystem becomes
altered by various medications such as such as antibiotics,
hormonal changes, use of contraceptives, douching, stress and
STD's.
Both Bacterial Vaginosis and Vaginal yeast
Infections are characterized by vaginal discharge and severe
itching. Although the symptoms can be similar, there are
differences to look for in the two conditions.
Complications arising from Bacterial
Vaginosis (BV) include increased risk of STD's (including HIV)
and increased risk of pre-term birth (PTB).
Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is a direct result
of the absence of Lactobacilli in the vagina. Use of
Probiotics can restore the
normal balances of flora and effectively treat Bacterial
Vaginosis.
